LIEU.CITY is a not-for-nerds platform that automatically generates Virtual Art Fairs. Virtual means that you can navigate 3D rooms and fair booths with a smartphone, any desktop web browser, smart TV and of course Oculus and other Virtual Reality glasses. Not-for-nerds means that anyone can use it with no need of special hardware or skills, any basic smartphone is good for LIEU.CITY. Through LIEU.CITY, an Art Fair can take place simultaneously in both the real and the virtual world, making possible for the two worlds to interact with each other. You do not need any special device, your smartphone is enough as it is. If you are looking for an enhanced experience, having a 65 inches TV connected to an Apple TV or an Oculus Quest will do the trick.
LIEU.CITY is so powerful that can generate huge art fairs with hundreds of booths and thousands of artworks. Any booth can then be curated with artworks directly from the Art Gallery curators. In fact LIEU.CITY is based on LIEU.Gallery, our curation engine that can automatically generate a 3D art gallery experience.
LIEU.CITY was conceived thinking on art galleries, art fairs, auction houses and museums. It can build a virtual place with hundreds of rooms and most importantly art fairs are 100% automatic generated, All the artworks can be easily imported from a database or manually uploaded. LIEU.CITY can even create a virtual space uploading artworks directly from your website, and in case you do not have one, LIEU.CITY can generate it automatically for you.
Visitors around the world can meet each other inside LIEU.CITY, they may be invited in private virtual shows, and they may even talk privately to art gallery assistants. The organizer can choose the dates and level of access granted to visitors, allowing to offer an even more personalized experience. Guided tours are easily handled and freelance curators or guides may help operators and visitors to have the best cultural and funny experience.
LIEU.CITY creates for the visitor a unique experience. Before the art fair takes place, the platform will allow the visitor to wish list artworks and to download a Pdf map of the artworks disposition, that may come in handy during the art fair visit in the real world (if the event will also take place in the real world, of course). Also, during this visit, the visitor can use the LIEU.CITY app as an audioguide, for locating his or her artworks or for wish listing more artworks. After the event, the visitors may navigate through all the artworks they actually saw, filtering them by a specific event, or by artist, title, dimension or main color of the artwork. All this information will remain available to the visitor for many years.
Art gallerists may finally know who actually wish listed their artworks, who entered the booth and, with respect for the privacy policies settled by the user, they may get in contact with visitors.
Art fairs managers may create an amazing experience. Given that the number of visitors can be much higher than a real-world event, the organizers can be in charge of every detail: level of access (who can make what), people invited to the event (who can invite who), and even who has to pay or who is given free access to the event.
Let’s talk about business
Art fairs managers may count on a larger community. Visitors that were previously registered to the LIEU.CITY website, according to their privacy settings, may be notified or invited to your future art fairs, becoming potential guests and clients. Managers can also involve Sponsors during Virtual Art fairs, even with physical merchandise, such as a car for example.
Art gallerists, if granted by the art fair, may have private rooms. During the show, they can know precisely what the visitors are doing; as in real art fairs, they can see where people is gathering and where they spend most of their time. Gallerists will also be able to know who entered to their booths, what the visitors mostly looked at (aggregated chart), which visitors returned, and who looked at additional multimedia material. Gallerists will even be able to interact with visitors, if the visitors’ privacy settings allow Gallerists to do so. In the case that the visitor has chosen a restricted privacy setting, he or she will automatically receive a recap of her experience and the art gallery will have the opportunity to send a brief message in order to give more information to the visitor, telling her, for example, if a particular artwork of her interest was sold or if there are similar artworks as the one she was originally interested in. As for giving more information, the visitor will always have access to multimedia content, if available, like the website link for a particular artwork, audioguide, video, the photo of the back side of the artwork or even the COA. The availability of all these information will depend on what the curator of the art fair will include.
How LIEU.CITY works
For art galleries LIEU is very easy to use. The gallery chooses a gallery template (if requested, their real art gallery setting may be virtually recreated), which has a maximum number of artworks that may be placed. As default, the platform will automatically place all the artworks side by side, with a standard distance of 1 meter between each artwork. But do not worry, LIEU.CITY platform flexibility allows the curator to choose the number of pieces to hang and to arrange them freely and as pleased. In addition, for each artwork the gallery curator may choose a frame model and color (if requested, personalized frames can be built) and choose some additional multimedia information that can be linked to the piece. This initial upload effort will become a future advantage for any art gallery. LIEU will allow the curator to download a Pdf with the artwork list of any current or previous exhibition, letting him to duplicate, save or edit any information of the full exhibition. In addition, private links and view pages are generated. The curator can also download a Pdf with the list of artworks or the signs to be put near any artwork to hangup in the real art gallery. If an art gallery attends two different art fairs hosted by LIEU.CITY, they will be able to reuse all the information they uploaded, optimizing time and effort.
For art fair managers LIEU.CITY is very powerful. The art fair employees will need to upload a 2D map of the pavilions and the list of the participating art galleries. Once done, LIEU.CITY will automatically generate the entire art fair environment, sending to the participating galleries the link through which they can start curating their booths, allowing them also to create their personalized invitation links and to upload any useful information. If the art gallery was already signed up inside LIEU.CITY they will just receive the link, if not, they will be be invited to signup for free inside the platform.
Art fairs managers will gather tons of information back from the platform: not only the number of visitors, but also which particular booth performed better, which artists the visitors liked the most, and new or returning visitors. Likewise detailed information will be available for sponsors.
Privacy and security policies are very strict inside the platform, nobody will have access to any information unless the owner has agreed to grant it. Servers are protected and, since the most common weak point of systems is employees fishing, a log with all accesses will be held. Single users will only have access to a limited amount of data during a limited amount of time, any download of data will must be approved by phone with a known manager.. No employees (or intruders pretending to be one) will be able to download data.
When will LIEU.CITY be available?
In August 2020 LIEU.GALLERY will be released, so art galleries, auction houses and museums may create virtual rooms or virtual buildings for their private or public visitors.
In September 2020 LIEU.CITY will be available also for art fairs in beta release and deployed with partner fairs.
In December 2020 LIEU.CITY 1.0 will be available for the general public.
How much does it costs?
For visitors and art galleries costs will depend on the art fair policy. LIEU.CITY is free of cost for both visitors or art galleries attending an art fair.
For the art fair organizer, there is a setup cost that will depend on the fair map setting and the level of operational support needed. If money is asked through the platform (as entrance fees for example) the platform will charge 18% as a transaction cost. Some costs may be covered by sponsors. LIEU.CITY do not ask money for its registered community users that attend art fair, except for the 18% in case of ticket entrance fee.
For art galleries that use LIEU for their private view, independently and outside an art fair, costs will be soon released.
